L-3 Communications Wins Widebody Interiors Contract
L-3 Communications Integrated Systems has won the contract for a head-of-state widebody executive/VIP interior.

L-3 Communications Integrated Systems has won the contract for a head-of-state widebody executive/VIP interior. A spokesman declined to reveal the name of the customer or the aircraft type, but said work has already begun on some of the interior components. The airplane is scheduled to arrive at the company’s Texas State Technical College Airport facilities in Waco early next year. The company’s most recent delivery, in September, was a Boeing 777 outfitted with an executive/VIP cabin for a Middle East customer. Dismissing talk that L-3 Communications Integrated Systems is moving away from the business aircraft interiors business, a spokesman said emphatically, “Nothing could be further from the truth.” At L-3 Communications Integrated Systems’ Waco facility the focus is on the cabin completion of head-of-state and similar widebody aircraft intended for government use. “As a government contractor,” he noted, “we have access to the latest technologies and upgrades, something other interior shops may not have.” The company is now allied with Sikorsky Aircraft in the manufacturer’s bid for a contract for the next Presidential helicopter. If Sikorsky wins the contract, L-3 will provide the mission communication systems and the interior furnishings for the VH-92 military/Presidential version of the S-92 helicopter.
