After taking a close look at all of the glass flight decks available on the market, Piper has selected Avidyne’s FlightMax Entegra integrated cockpit for its single-engine Saratoga HP and TC and the new Piper 6X and XT.

According to Piper, the avionics layouts for the models consist of a pair of 10.4-inch-diagonal Entegra displays. On the left is the EXP5000 primary flight display with integrated solid-state air data and attitude/heading reference system (ADAHRS), and on the right is the EX5000 multifunction display with EMax engine instrumentation and optional datalink weather capability.

The color PFD shows standard flight instrumentation, including ADI, HSI, altitude, primary engine instruments, airspeed and vertical speed. The MFD includes a moving map, as well as lightning, terrain, traffic, engine and datalink weather data.

The Entegra EMax readout of engine instrumentation, said the aircraft manufacturer, can also show fuel remaining and compute nautical miles per gallon, fuel-to-waypoint and fuel-to-destination calculations on the MFD. In addition, CHT and EGT, oil temperature, OAT and electrical bus voltages are monitored and displayed by the avionics. The Entegra system for the Piper models also provides data-logging capability for critical engine performance parameters, which are downloadable through an MFD data port.

Entegra simplifies the pilot’s workload and provides the tools that allow for more aggressive missions and flight profiles.”
The optional Entegra equipment will join the production line at Piper’s Vero Beach, Fla. factory this month.
