NBAA Ponders Role in Latin American Bizav Show

NBAA is reconsidering its role in the Latin American Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (LABACE). The association has cosponsored the annual show in Brazil with the Associação Brasileira de Aviação Geral (ABAG) since it began in 2003. Since then, the show has struggled to find a solid base, and LABACE 2006 was cancelled, when, according to the NBAA, an accelerated airport construction project dramatically reduced the space available. “Unfortunately,” said NBAA president and CEO Ed Bolen at the time, “several factors beyond our control make it impossible for us to host such a show this August [and] we see no alternative other than to defer this year’s event.” At the same time, Bolen emphasized that NBAA and ABAG were continuing plans for LABACE 2007 in São Paulo, tentatively scheduled for August. Now NBAA is reassessing its role as a cosponsor and determining the degree to which it will participate if ABAG goes on with the event this year.
