Aviation Communications & Surveillance Systems (ACSS), a joint L-3 Communications and Thales company, has announced that Cessna has selected the TCAS 2000 traffic alert and collision avoidance system as standard for the Citation X, XLS and Sovereign. Launched in 1997 by Honeywell, TCAS 2000 was the industry’s first TCAS II system. In 1999 when AlliedSignal and Honeywell merged, ACSS was formed to buy the product. Since then ACSS has introduced a terrain awareness and warning system (TAWS) for business jets and airliners. Combined in a single product, ACSS’ TAWS and TCAS are together sold under the brand name T2CAS, more than 1,500 of which have been ordered to date. TCAS 2000 is flying aboard more than 9,000 aircraft. ACSS recently introduced a next-generation traffic alert system, TCAS 3000, selected by Dassault for the Falcon 7X.
