The National Air Transportation Association (NATA) is calling for FBOs to speak out on the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) spill-containment rules for refueling trucks. According to NATA, “Fuel trucks are now subject to regulation requiring so-called ‘secondary containment’ while the trucks are parked.” The EPA contends that these trucks are mobile or portable storage facilities subject to existing regulation and have been covered since the rules’ inception in the early 1970s. NATA insists that compliance raises a serious risk of fire. NATA is looking for more concrete information to provide to lawmakers to strengthen the argument of how costly and impracticable the requirement is.
