The twinjet derivative of the former VisionAire Vantage is progressing, though not quite as quickly as previously expected. Next month’s planned first flight has been delayed until October, though the critical design review was completed last month, paving the way for the construction of a conforming airplane at Eviation’s São José dos Campos, Brazil facility. Brazilian certification is now estimated to occur in October next year, with reciprocal FAA approval to follow shortly thereafter.
Wind-tunnel tests prompted Eviation to alter the tail to a T-tail configuration. The company is currently evaluating glass cockpits and will make an announcement this summer.
According to Eviation president and CEO Greg Powers, the price of the EV-20 has jumped from about $2.25 million to $2.995 million (2006 $). He added that the company is partially funded through certification and is still seeking investors.
