Gregory Polek has spent his entire career in aviation journalism with AIN, starting as a proofreader and assistant to then-managing editor Mary Mahoney in 1995 after serving an internship with&nbsp;New Jersey Monthly&nbsp;magazine and completing his B.A. degree in English/Writing at New Jersey’s William Paterson College. By 1997 Polek accepted a position as an associate editor, covering the regional airline beat for&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;in place of retiring industry veteran Don Anderson. The assignment took Polek across North America and Europe to profile regional airlines varying in size and mission from the likes of floatplane operators Kenmore Air and Chalk’s Ocean Airways to regional jet operators such as SkyWest and American Eagle. Today, in his dual role as Air Transport Editor and International Airshow Editor, Polek writes, edits, and manages AIN’s commercial aviation content while overseeing each of the company’s daily international air show publications in Paris, Farnborough, Singapore, and Dubai. Most recently Polek has assumed oversight of daily coverage of the Helicopter Association International’s annual Heli-Expo convention.

Wholly owned American Airlines regional subsidiary American Eagle Airlines will change its name to Envoy this spring, the company announced last month. It said the move stems from the need to eliminate confusion between the company’s current name and American Eagle, the regional flying brand under which all of American’s 10 regional affiliates will eventually operate. 
“Our people and our company–which is one of the largest regional carriers in the world with some of the best people in our business–deserve a name that is all our own,” said American Eagle Airlines president Pedro Fabregas. “By taking on the Envoy name, we can better differentiate ourselves from the competition and better market ourselves. This is important for both our people and our company as we further expand our ground-handling business.”
The company chose the name Envoy after what it called an extensive selection and vetting process during which it considered feedback from employees. It said it considered more than 1,000 names. 
American said customers will notice no difference in service or travel experience as a result of the change, and that ticket counters and gates will continue to show the American and American Eagle names. Meanwhile, Envoy’s airplanes will retain the American Eagle brand and livery. Once it undergoes the necessary regulatory processes and approvals, the company will add “Operated by Envoy” to its aircraft paint scheme and note the new name on customer tickets.
