Bombardier CRJ200 Crashes In Kazakhstan, All 21 Aboard Dead

A Bombardier CRJ200 operated by Kazakh regional airline SCAT crashed on Tuesday near the village of Kyzyl Tu in southeast Kazakhstan, killing all 15 passengers and six crewmembers. Although reports from Kazakhstan indicate the existence of low clouds and fog, a Bombardier spokesman couldn’t confirm the weather conditions at the time of the accident.

The spokesman told AIN that the 50-seat jet, one of six in SCAT’s fleet, crashed at around 1 p.m. local time while on approach to the southeastern city of Almaty during a scheduled flight from Kokshetau, in the northern province of Akmola. Bombardier has made contact with local authorities, he added, and will assist in the investigation.
