Some Web sites still do not meet the U.S. Department of Transportation’s requirement for providing explicit information about the identity of code-share partners, despite new legislation adopted last August that clarified the requirements for Internet sales. In response, the DOT issued new guidance on the matter last month. Although the rule requires written notice of code-share service, the DOT had not pursued enforcement action in cases where an operating carrier’s corporate or other pertinent names appeared through a hyperlink or mouse rollover. Under the DOT’s new policy, explicit identification of a code-share partner must now appear on the same screen as the travel itinerary and “immediately adjacent to that itinerary and to each alternative itinerary, if applicable.” The DOT said it will begin enforcing the new rule on March 11.
