Gregory Polek has spent his entire career in aviation journalism with AIN, starting as a proofreader and assistant to then-managing editor Mary Mahoney in 1995 after serving an internship with&nbsp;New Jersey Monthly&nbsp;magazine and completing his B.A. degree in English/Writing at New Jersey’s William Paterson College. By 1997 Polek accepted a position as an associate editor, covering the regional airline beat for&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;in place of retiring industry veteran Don Anderson. The assignment took Polek across North America and Europe to profile regional airlines varying in size and mission from the likes of floatplane operators Kenmore Air and Chalk’s Ocean Airways to regional jet operators such as SkyWest and American Eagle. Today, in his dual role as Air Transport Editor and International Airshow Editor, Polek writes, edits, and manages AIN’s commercial aviation content while overseeing each of the company’s daily international air show publications in Paris, Farnborough, Singapore, and Dubai. Most recently Polek has assumed oversight of daily coverage of the Helicopter Association International’s annual Heli-Expo convention.

Austrian low-fare airline Niki in late November converted purchase rights into 
<link airshow-convention-news>firm orders for another two Embraer E190s, deliveries of which the companies have scheduled for the first half of next year. A firm order for five airplanes announced during the Farnborough Airshow in July 2008 included purchase rights on another five jets–either E190s or E195s. The conversion of two purchase rights on two E190s raises the number of airplanes on firm order to seven, the first two of which went to the Vienna-based carrier last May and June. It expects to accept delivery of the balance of the initial order later this year. 
Configured in a high-density, 112-seat cabin layout, the E190s fly alongside 150- to 212-seat Airbus A320-series narrow-bodies, making Niki the first European airline to integrate the Brazilian jets with conventional mainline models. &nbsp;
Majority owned by former Grand Prix race car driver Niki Lauda, Niki flies in cooperation with Air Berlin and Russia’s S7 Airlines.
