Gregory Polek has spent his entire career in aviation journalism with AIN, starting as a proofreader and assistant to then-managing editor Mary Mahoney in 1995 after serving an internship with&nbsp;New Jersey Monthly&nbsp;magazine and completing his B.A. degree in English/Writing at New Jersey’s William Paterson College. By 1997 Polek accepted a position as an associate editor, covering the regional airline beat for&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;in place of retiring industry veteran Don Anderson. The assignment took Polek across North America and Europe to profile regional airlines varying in size and mission from the likes of floatplane operators Kenmore Air and Chalk’s Ocean Airways to regional jet operators such as SkyWest and American Eagle. Today, in his dual role as Air Transport Editor and International Airshow Editor, Polek writes, edits, and manages AIN’s commercial aviation content while overseeing each of the company’s daily international air show publications in Paris, Farnborough, Singapore, and Dubai. Most recently Polek has assumed oversight of daily coverage of the Helicopter Association International’s annual Heli-Expo convention.

GE Aviation today announced the opening of a new systems manufacturing facility in Suzhou, China. GE Aviation Systems president and CEO Lorraine Bolsinger formally opened the facility at an event attended by senior representatives of the Government of Suzhou, China Aviation Industry Corporation (AVIC) and other senior government and customer officials. 
“Our Suzhou facility brings state-of-the-art systems manufacturing to the Jiang Su province and its people,” Bolsinger said. “GE is committed to the continued growth of the region in support of our customers’ requirements for the advancement of aerospace systems. Suzhou will play a key role in our mission to deliver competitive and time-critical civil aerospace programs.” 
Located in the Suzhou Industrial Park, the new facility can produce autoclaved composite parts, mechanical fabrications, structure assembly and civil aircraft actuation systems. 
Plans call for GE to hire 200 employees this year to staff the new facility, meant to support “key” customer requirements for parts in Boeing’s 737, 777 and 787, the Airbus A320, A330 and A340 and China’s emerging ARJ21 regional jet, among others.&nbsp; 
Future plans include the addition of an electronics assembly and test capability.
