Gregory Polek has spent his entire career in aviation journalism with AIN, starting as a proofreader and assistant to then-managing editor Mary Mahoney in 1995 after serving an internship with&nbsp;New Jersey Monthly&nbsp;magazine and completing his B.A. degree in English/Writing at New Jersey’s William Paterson College. By 1997 Polek accepted a position as an associate editor, covering the regional airline beat for&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;in place of retiring industry veteran Don Anderson. The assignment took Polek across North America and Europe to profile regional airlines varying in size and mission from the likes of floatplane operators Kenmore Air and Chalk’s Ocean Airways to regional jet operators such as SkyWest and American Eagle. Today, in his dual role as Air Transport Editor and International Airshow Editor, Polek writes, edits, and manages AIN’s commercial aviation content while overseeing each of the company’s daily international air show publications in Paris, Farnborough, Singapore, and Dubai. Most recently Polek has assumed oversight of daily coverage of the Helicopter Association International’s annual Heli-Expo convention.

British Airways has ordered six Embraer E170s and five E190SRs for its wholly owned CityFlyer regional affiliate in a deal valued at some $376 million. The contract includes options on another three E190SRs, which, if converted, would raise the total value of the transaction to $489 million
BA CityFlyer plans to take delivery of the first E170, configured in a single-class, 76-seat cabin layout, in September next year. The E190SRs—a new variant of the 100-seat-class E190 series now undergoing a series of engineering evaluations scheduled to result in approval for the steep approach into London City Airport by the end of next year—would likely enter the CityFlyer fleet in early 2010. Those airplanes would arrive in a single-class, 98-seat layout.
The E170 received steep-approach certification to fly into London City in June last year. 
British Airways said the new airplanes will replace its current fleet of 10 Avro RJ100s and two RJ85s and fly from LCY into Scotland, Ireland and continental Europe. The airline claims the smaller E170 will cut CO2 emissions by up to 56 percent compared with the Avros and the 190SR will reduce CO2 emissions by up to 28 percent.
