Gregory Polek has spent his entire career in aviation journalism with AIN, starting as a proofreader and assistant to then-managing editor Mary Mahoney in 1995 after serving an internship with&nbsp;New Jersey Monthly&nbsp;magazine and completing his B.A. degree in English/Writing at New Jersey’s William Paterson College. By 1997 Polek accepted a position as an associate editor, covering the regional airline beat for&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;in place of retiring industry veteran Don Anderson. The assignment took Polek across North America and Europe to profile regional airlines varying in size and mission from the likes of floatplane operators Kenmore Air and Chalk’s Ocean Airways to regional jet operators such as SkyWest and American Eagle. Today, in his dual role as Air Transport Editor and International Airshow Editor, Polek writes, edits, and manages AIN’s commercial aviation content while overseeing each of the company’s daily international air show publications in Paris, Farnborough, Singapore, and Dubai. Most recently Polek has assumed oversight of daily coverage of the Helicopter Association International’s annual Heli-Expo convention.

Chautauqua Airlines on November 1 became the fifth regional airline to fly as Delta Connection, when a new 50-seat Embraer ERJ-145 took off from Columbus, Ohio, on its first scheduled flight to Orlando, Fla. On the same day Chautauqua began service between Columbus and Tampa, one of three daily round trips between the Delta system’s new city pair. In June Chautauqua ordered 22 of the Brazilian jets for its new Delta code-share deal, expected to add 160 flights a day into the Delta system by the end of next year. 
Chautauqua will use its 62,000-sq-ft maintenance facility in Columbus to support its Delta Connection airplanes. The company employs 225 workers in the Columbus area, including 80 technicians at the maintenance facility. Based in Indianapolis, Chautauqua’s fleet totals 53 aircraft, including 38 ERJ-145s flying for America West and US Airways, and fifteen 44-seat ERJ-140s, operating under Chautauqua’s own flight code but painted in American Connection livery. By the time it takes delivery of all its Delta Connection jets, Chautauqua will operate a total of 75 Embraer regional jets.
