This month will mark the end of Kawasaki Aeronautica do Brasil’s wing production in Gaviao Peixoto, Brazil, as the company transfers work packages for the metallic airfoil sections for the 190 and 195 airliners to Embraer as outlined in a letter of agreement signed by the parties in late May. Kawasaki Heavy Industries will retain work packages related to the wing control surfaces and the main landing-gear doors of the aircraft, as it will honor all contracts connected with the Embraer 170 and 175. The transfer became necessary because Kawasaki cannot marshal enough resources to accommodate simultaneous production increases for the 190/195 and the Boeing 787, for which it has already contracted to build more than 100 fuselage barrels over the next two years.
