A UK-based company called Project 1221 is developing a limited-run, high-end sports car powered by a 1,500-shp variant of the Williams International FJ44 engine. The $816,000 (E675,000) jet-powered car will come in two versions–the three-seat MF1 treposti or two-seat MF1 dueposti. Both models are available in an all-wheel- or rear-wheel-drive configuration, and the steering wheel can be installed on the left- or right-hand side. Additionally, the three-seat version can be equipped with optional armor protection. The car is guaranteed to reach at least 270 mph, thanks to its power-to-weight ratio of 1,000 hp per ton.

MF1 production is being limited to 199 vehicles, with demand determining the split between two- and three-seaters. The developer expects to unveil the cars by year-end, and first deliveries are scheduled for 2008. Williams International has been mum about whether the FJ44 turboshaft developed for the MF1 could be the basis for a turboprop version of the engine.
