Jeppesen has released its FliteDeck Pro electronic flight bag (EFB) software for Microsoft Window 8 tablets, and Delta Air Lines is implementing FliteDeck Pro for 11,000 pilots on Microsoft Surface 2 tablets. FliteDeck Pro for Windows 8 offers worldwide navigation charts, including data-driven en route information and terminal charts, all of which are updated with “changes-only” content to facilitate faster updates. Unlike the current version of the iPad, the Surface tablet allows users to run two applications in split screens.

“The full-HD 1080p Surface tablet provides seamless delivery of real-time flight data from Jeppesen in all lighting conditions, and pilots can configure their tablet to provide the right information at the right time,” said Tracy Issel, general manager for retail, consumer goods, hospitality and travel at Microsoft.

FliteDeck Pro for Windows 8 isn’t available in the Windows Store. According to a Jeppesen spokesman, “We work individually with airlines and large operators to provide them with the Windows 8 FliteDeck Pro EFB solution, which is supported by the Jeppesen Distribution Manager Pro secure network to manage data.”
