A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Curt lives in New York State with his wife and two young sons.

Castle &amp; Cooke has completed a $12 million upgrade of its FBO at Los Angeles-area Van Nuys Airport (VNY). Originally designed as a private corporate complex, the facility now has a 1,500-sq-ft transient passenger lounge and a new 38,000-sq-ft hangar that can accommodate the latest class of ultra-long-range business jets, for a total of 187,000 sq ft of aircraft shelter on its nine-acre leasehold. The company also added two acres of ramp area.


While VNY doesn’t have U.S. Customs service, Caste &amp; Cooke’s Honolulu facility can provide clearance for incoming trans-pacific aircraft, allowing them to land directly at VNY and avoiding the cost and congestion of landing first at Los Angeles International Airport. “I think that’s a contributor to our success in pairing the two cities because we’re really better equipped now for quick turns and for accepting transients,” said Tony Marlow, the company’s marketing director and general manager of its Honolulu FBO. “[Van Nuys] had limited ramp space before, so the logistics were a little more difficult, but now we’ve expanded to the point where it’s really working well.”
