The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) reached a new record when inspectors at U.S. airports confiscated 65 guns in one seven-day period ending May 24. That number represents a 30-percent increase over the agency’s previous record of 50 in a week.

The agency reported that of those 65 captured weapons, 54 were loaded when they were found and 19 had rounds in the chamber. During a pat-down after advanced-technology imaging detected an anomaly, a passenger at Salt Lake City (SLC) was found to be carrying a fully loaded .22-caliber firearm inside his boot strapped to a prosthetic leg.

Finally, a dozen stun guns were discovered in carry-on bags around the nation, two at Las Vegas (LAS), two at Sacramento (SMF) and the others at Albuquerque (ABQ), Baltimore (BWI), Detroit (DTW), Washington Dulles (IAD), Phoenix (PHX), San Francisco (SFO), San Juan (SJU) and St. Louis (STL).
