A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Curt lives in New York State with his wife and two young sons.

Rockwell Collins introduced new enhancements to its Flight Manager web-based application today at the NBAA Schedulers &amp; Dispatchers Conference in San Antonio, Texas. The changes to the program, which is part of the Iowa-based company’s Ascend flight information solutions, include dynamic graphical flight tracking, and an electronic advance passenger information system (APIS) reporting tool for Part 91 operators.


The flight-tracking tool, which is accessible through the web, uses a Google Maps platform to provide the company’s datalink subscribers with a worldwide view of their aircraft’s position in flight, as well as the flight path of completed and future flights. These maps can be projected onto an overhead LCD display to provide an operational view for the entire flight department. The page also allows users to overlay satellite and U.S. radar data to plot the aircraft’s position in relation to inclement weather. Users can also click on the aircraft icon to send instant datalink messages to the flight crew.


“These new enhancements help accomplish our mission to streamline flight operations systems,” said Steve Timm, the company’s vice president and general manager of flight information systems. “The new flight-tracking feature provides operators with the situational awareness they need to more efficiently and effectively manage their fleet.”


The app’s APIS tool automatically integrates the necessary information for flights into and out of the U.S., including flight plan, crew and passenger information, helping operators avoid redundant data entry and management of multiple databases.
