A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III landed inadvertently at Peter O. Knight Airport (TPF) in Tampa, Fla., on July 21 after the pilots apparently mistook the general aviation airport's 3,850 foot Runway 4/22 for a similarly aligned runway at nearby MacDill AFB. Runway 4/22 at MacDill stretches 11,421 feet.
The C-17 stopped with just a few feet of the TPF runway remaining. The Air Force has yet to label the incident pilot error.
