Advocacy efforts by NBAA members, the Connecticut Legislative Aviation Caucus and the Connecticut Business Aviation Group to fight a personal property tax on all aircraft based in the state were successful. Last month, the House and Senate in Connecticut passed a budget that does not contain “the potentially devastating tax increases for aviation that were proposed in earlier versions,” NBAA said. When the budget process began, legislators were considering the personal property tax on all aircraft based in Connecticut. Had this property tax been included in the final budget, it would have represented a major tax increase for aircraft owners, according to NBAA. In the final budget, legislators also did not include a provision that would have eliminated the state’s sales tax exemption on repair services for aircraft weighing more than 6,000 pounds.
