Doug King, CEO of the LT Builders Group, yesterday at EAA AirVenture said that kits for the $1.9 million (complete) single-engine turboprop LT are back in production at the former Epic factory in Bend, Ore. Epic filed for bankruptcy last year and was liquidated. The LT Builders Group subsequently acquired exclusive rights for the former Epic kitplane designs in North America and the U.S. territories. The new company hired back five core former Epic employees to assist aircraft builders and is making and selling parts for existing aircraft. Twenty-nine Epic LTs have been produced to date and another 12 are on the assembly line. King discounted as unfounded the “rumor and speculation” that LT builders were not abiding by the 51-percent amateur build rule and said that the FAA has provided extensive “guidance” to the company to ensure compliance. “We want to do this honest and straight in the light of day,” King said.
