Charter/management company ExcelAire announced Tuesday that it has added a 13-seat Gulfstream GIV-SP to its fleet, bringing the company’s Gulfstream inventory to 10 jets.
“With the additional GIV-SP, we extend our dominance in the heavy jet category,” said David Rimmer, executive vice president of ExcelAire. “The GIV-SP also complements our existing fleet of executive aircraft, providing customers with a range of jets for their travels.”
In addition to Gulfstreams, ExcelAire’s fleet includes the Legacy 600, Beechjet, Cessna Citation, Learjet, two cabin-class helicopters and other aircraft from its hangar, and office space on Long Island MacArthur Airport.
As the latest addition to the ExcelAire fleet, the managed GIV-SP features reclining, berthable leather seats, a forward galley, entertainment systems, and roomy forward and aft lavatories, with 495-knot speed and a range of 4,220 nm. 
Rimmer said that in the current economy, the charter business is divided into two kinds of operations–healthy ones that are growing strong and those “flying for food or fuel” that are desperately trying to hold on and distorting prices. 
“Our customer base is growing,” he said. “But it’s frustrating to compete against companies who don’t have the vision or strength to survive this.”
