Lufthansa Technik has won contracts worth more than $100 million to provide total component support (TCS) and total engine support (TES) for the six Boeing 747-400ER freighters due to be delivered to Chinese start-up Jade Cargo International through January 2008.

The TCS work runs for 10 years. It covers power-by-the-hour fleet maintenance, with warehousing and provisioning by Lufthansa Technik Shenzhen at Bao’an International Airport. The LHT subsidiary will also repair the pallets and containers used for loading cargo.

The TES contract covers the airplanes’ General Electric CF6-80C2 engines, which will be supported on power-by-the-hour terms over the next 12 years. The maintainer will make an additional spare engine available on request.

The contracts are LHT’s first with a 747-400ERF operator. Shenzhen-based Jade, a joint-venture owned 51:25:24 by Shenzhen Airlines, Lufthansa Cargo and German investment house DEG, is due to start operations next month. It plans to serve intra-Asian, European and American destinations.     –B.J.F.
